I excel as an early-stage UX/UI designer in a Lean UX environment. I prefer working within a cross-functional team to get feedback as early as possible so it can be used to make fast decisions. I’m passionate about creating enjoyable experiences that are not cumbersome or distracting, and try to design interfaces that are intuitive to use.
Things I like to do: user interface guidelines and component libraries; wireframes, prototypes, and user interface mockups; I like to collaborate on: user interviews, usability testing, and surveys; I prefer using: Figma or Sketch, but I’ll use the Adobe Creative Suite if I have to; I also love to pitch in on front-end development using native web techologies (HTML/CSS/JS), or frameworks such as React and Hugo.
Hands down one of my favorite people with whom I’ve ever had the pleasure of working. Optimism that doesn’t quit, a focus on extreme simplicity, and an innate ability to rapidly work through really complex UX problems. His presentation skills and EQ in a group are flawless, he takes and incorporates feedback with aplomb, but stands up for what’s right if he doesn’t agree.
In the time I’ve been a developer and manager, I’m not sure I’ve bumped into another UX professional with the unique blend of design, branding, user empathy, and technical insight that Travis brings to all of his work. UX lead and system designer for Buoyant Cloud; a multi-cluster dashboard for Linkerd, which automatically keeps Linkerd’s control plane and data plane up to date with the latest versions, handles installs, trust anchor rotation, and continuously monitors health metrics to proactively send alerts about potential issues before they escalate.
Led UX for Minted Wedding Websites, along with other online tools and growth initiatives. Architect and design lead of the Minted Component Library. While at Minted, I learned to carefully balance user needs and business goals to create products that are loved by their customers.
Co-founded Hitched Up: the easiest, fastest way to build your wedding RSVP site. Hitched Up was acquired by Minted in 2015.
Led design for Destination Hotels, South Dakota Tourism, Visit KC, Enterprise, Sixt, Davenport Hotel Collection, UDR, Dolce Hotels and Resorts, and Surf or Sound. Responsibilities include developing UX requirements and workflow, project planning, creative direction, interface design, and illustration.
Led design and development for Borden Cheese, WKC Restaurants (McCoy’s, Foundry, Beer Kitchen), and Dispatch Music. Designed and developed promotional websites for Strange Music. Responsibilities included creative direction, interface design, front-end development, PHP development, illustration, and photography.
Led design for Elbow Chocolates, Kansas City Performing Arts Center, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Kasil Jeans. Designed and developed promotional websites for McDonald’s, Ruby Tuesday, Ubisoft and Walmart. Responsibilities included art direction, interface design, Flash development, and front-end development.
